Game Rules

Insider Exposure reserves the right to interpret, enforce, and amend these rules as necessary to ensure the integrity, safety, and proper operation of the event. All decisions by event staff are considered final.

All high school games will be governed by the current National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rules unless otherwise specified. All other game structure rules listed below apply to travel ball tournaments.

All game officials and Insider Exposure staff have full authority over all aspects of tournament operations, including but not limited to scheduling, timing, eligibility determinations, rule enforcement, and final rulings.

All decisions made by Insider Exposure staff and assigned game officials are final.

All games will be governed by the current NFHS rules unless otherwise specified. Find rules and resources at https://www.nfhs.org/.

All in-game rule enforcement, interpretations, and judgments are at the sole discretion of the assigned game officials.

All rule clarifications must be addressed with the Event Director prior to the start of the game.

Failure to comply with tournament rules, staff instructions, or event policies may result in penalties, including, but not limited to, removal from the facility, forfeiture of games, or disqualification from the tournament.

All participants, coaches, and spectators must adhere to Insider Exposure Fighting, Conduct, and Safety Policies at all times.

The venue will open to all participants and spectators 30 minutes prior to the first scheduled game time each day. DO NOT ARRIVE MORE THAN 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRST GAME TIME.

Each team is required to arrive a minimum of one (1) hour prior to their scheduled game time, unless participating in the first game of the day.

Teams must be present, checked in, and prepared to play at their scheduled game time. Failure to do so may result in a forfeit at the discretion of tournament staff.

The designated home team is responsible for providing the official scorebook.

Each team is permitted a maximum of two (2) coaches. All coaches must:
• Check in prior to their first game at their designated site
• Present valid identification to receive credentials

Coaches are required to wear their issued credentials at all times while on-site. Wristbands (if issued) must be worn securely on the wrist, may not be removed, transferred, or altered in any way, and must remain intact for the duration of the event. Any individual without a valid, properly worn wristband or credential may be denied entry or removed from the facility at the discretion of Insider Exposure staff.

Coaches are responsible for their players’ and spectators’ behavior and must address all sportsmanship issues appropriately.

Fighting of any kind is strictly prohibited at Insider Exposure events.

If a fight occurs, the following actions will be enforced immediately:

  • Law enforcement may be contacted and charges may be pursued against involved individuals
  • All individuals involved will be ejected from the facility and will not be permitted to return
  • The teams involved will forfeit the game, which will be recorded as a double loss, and the game will be ended immediately at the time of the incident
  • A second altercation involving the same team may result in removal from the tournament
  • No refunds or credits will be issued under any circumstances

All incidents are subject to review by the tournament director.

Games will consist of two (2) stopped-time halves:
• 7th–12th Grade: Two (2) 16-minute halves
• 6th Grade & Younger: Two (2) 14-minute halves

Each game will include:

• 10-second backcourt violation
• No shot clock

A player will be disqualified upon committing six (6) personal fouls.

Team fouls will be administered as follows:
• On the 10th team foul of each half, the opposing team will be awarded two (2) free throws.

Technical fouls will result in:
• One (1) free throw, and
• Possession will resume at the point of interruption.

All other rules will be governed by the current NFHS rules, unless otherwise specified.

Overtime will consist of a 2-minute stopped-time period.
If a second overtime is required, the game will proceed to a sudden-death format, where the first team to score two (2) points by any legal means will be declared the winner.

Tie Breakers:
• Head-to-head results will be used first
• In the event of a three-way tie, point differential will be used, capped at +/- 20 points

End-of-Game Procedure:

• Under one (1) minute remaining, a team in possession of the ball in the backcourt may advance the ball to half court by using a timeout.

The Elam Ending may be implemented for select games at the discretion of the Event Director and both participating coaches.

Mercy Rule:
The following mercy rule conditions may be applied:
• A 30-point lead at any time during the game, or
• A 20-point lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the second half

If either condition is met, a running clock may be implemented at the discretion of Insider Exposure staff.

The clock will return to standard stopped-time operation once the point differential is reduced to fewer than 10 points.
